Australia seeks narrowband satellite communications capability in new AusTender request

The Australian Department of Defence has opened a tender for a new narrowband satellite communications capability.

Defence’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group has issued a Request for Tender for SPA9102 LOE2 Narrowband SATCOM Capability, with the project expected to run over a five-year delivery time frame.

The tender, classified under the spacecraft category, was published on 7 September, with responses due by 7 December 2026.

The tender is expected to assist the Australian Defence Force as it continues to strengthen its space-enabled communications infrastructure.

The procurement forms part of Defence’s broader effort to provide resilient satellite communications for ADF operations, with narrowband SATCOM supporting reliable communications where terrestrial networks may be unavailable or disrupted.

The tender is being managed by the SPA9102 LOE2 project director, with responses to be lodged electronically through AusTender.
