South Australia-based Myriota, global leader in nanosatellite internet of things (IoT) connectivity, has appointed Barbara Swanson as its first CRO to grow its global customer base.

Swanson will head up the sales and marketing teams and be responsible for building and executing the strategy to drive uptake in key international markets.

The position will be integral to building Myriota's global partner network and making data accessible to all through low-cost, low-power, secure direct-to-orbit connectivity for IoT.

Swanson is a highly experienced global sales executive, specialised in SaaS technology for the past 20 years. Most recently, she held the role of vice president, sales and managing director, Asia-Pacific for Germany-based TeamViewer, which is a leader in IoT and produces remote control, monitoring and collaboration software.

Swanson is now returning to her career after taking two years of parental leave with her three young children.

As a dual Australian-US citizen, Swanson has strong international experience and a record of establishing and executing global sales strategies. She was transferred to Sydney by West Corporation in 2002 to lead the Asia-Pacific sales organisation.

There, her team grew revenue in the region from $20+ million to $150+ million in five years. Prior to the move to Australia, Swanson has held various sales and marketing roles in the US with an emphasis on launching and expanding new markets.

Alex Grant, Myriota co-founder and CEO, said, "Barbara Swanson brings vital skills and experience to Myriota, at a time when we are looking to rapidly expand both regionally and internationally.

"As CRO, Barbara will be instrumental in architecting our global business development strategy while expanding and leading our sales and marketing teams. With the rapid expansion of IoT there is huge international interest and demand for low-cost satellite connectivity, and with Barbara Swanson on board, we are ideally placed to take advantage of this emerging market."

Myriota, which last year announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with Optus to bolster IoT coverage for regional Australia, is making data accessible across global industries including agriculture, logistics, transport and environmental management. It also recently announced a partnership with global manufacturer Motherson to produce millions of the Myriota Module; a cutting-edge, low-powered device that securely transfers data to the Myriota Network of satellites from anywhere on the planet.

Swanson said, "Joining Myriota is a new and exciting opportunity for me to bring my skills to help grow one of the most exciting scale-ups in the international space sector. I’m looking forward to working with the extremely talented and dedicated team at Myriota to take the company global. Space communications is a very dynamic and fast-growing industry to be in as we enter the Fourth Industrial Age."

Founded in Adelaide in 2015, Myriota is a low-cost satellite IoT connectivity provider that connects huge populations of long battery life IoT devices by sending small data messages, at ultra-low-cost, from any location on the planet.

From monitoring water tanks in outback Australia, to asset tracking and logistics worldwide, Myriota is making global IoT a reality.
