Calls for space scientists to enter awards

The AusSpace24 Awards presents an opportunity for scientists in space to showcase their achievements and gain national recognition.

Formerly known as the Australian Space Awards, the AusSpace24 Awards is returning for the fifth consecutive year to recognise the leading professionals and businesses of the space industry.

The awards program will culminate in a black-tie ceremony on Tuesday, 28 May 2024, at The Star, Sydney. Click here to buy tickets.

Out of the 25 individual and group categories on offer for entrants is the coveted Scientist of the Year award, which will champion the scientist who has delivered outstanding work for their organisation or institution while supporting the strengthening of Australia’s space economy through their participation in the space industry.

It is open to any degree-qualified space scientist, at any career level and at any age, who has consistently excelled in their field and is on a rapid career trajectory, with their work central to the commercial success, growth or development of their organisation.

All scientists specialising in the agricultural, aerospace, astronomical, chemical, civil, electrical and electronics, geospatial, mechatronic, launch, mechanical, medical, observation, structural, information and combat systems, and all other sectors are encouraged to participate.

To be eligible for this award, the nominee must own or be employed in an Australian business, organisation or institution (or a division of a global business that is registered to trade in Australia) that has a focus on supporting the Australian space industry.

PROMOTED CONTENT

The period of assessment is from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023. All information will be treated as confidential and only shared with the specific judges who assess this category.

As part of the assessment criteria, you will be asked to provide responses to a series of questions in your submission that are no longer than 400 words per question.

Use your submission to showcase your outstanding work that demonstrates excellence in your specific area of expertise and how this has benefited your organisation or institution.

Outline the main challenges you encountered while completing your work, how you successfully overcame them, and what the key benefits or utility of your work are.

The third question asks entrants to detail their contribution to the wider innovation, growth or financial performance of your specific department, program, institution and/or the company as a whole, with reference, where relevant, to specific data.

Finally, describe how you have contributed to the profession more widely or to the space industry outside of the specific work outlined above.

Attach supporting documents to stand out

In order to strengthen your entry, we strongly encourage you to provide and refer to any attached supporting material for the judges’ consideration.

This material can include financial or business metrics, images, statistics, transcripts, media coverage, accolades, testimonials or recommendations/references and other relevant information.

You may submit a maximum of four supporting documents unless directly requested.

If the documents are not directly referenced and relevant to your submission, they will be disregarded.

In addition to this, we recommend that you submit an optional short video up to 30 seconds long, answering the question: “What does business success mean to you?”

This award will provide peer-reviewed recognition of your capabilities in space and passion for driving the industry forward.

Finalists will be determined by a well-respected judging panel that includes senior space industry and government leaders, academics, business executives, entrepreneurs and innovators. Click here to view the methodology.
