Aviation/Aerospace Australia appoints interim CEO

Aviation/Aerospace Australia has appointed high-profile industry leader Anntonette Dailey to be its interim chief executive.

Dailey is a co-founder of the Australian Space Diversity Alliance (ASDA) and recently worked for 18 months at Virgin Australia. She has previously served as an executive director for the Australian Space Agency and as a council member of the Defence Council of Victoria.

A/AA describes itself as an inclusive, purpose-led organisation committed to the sustainability of the aviation, aerospace and space sectors locally.

Its flagship program is the Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia initiative, which focuses on gender diversity and inclusion, and the NextGen Network initiative that supports the next generation of potential recruits.

Dailey said she resonated with the values of the A/AA and its commitment to sustainability and inclusion.

“Having worked in each sector, I am inspired by the pace and complexities and look forward to meeting with members and stakeholders,” she said in a LinkedIn post announcing the news. “What an exciting time to join a dynamic and passionate team!”

Dailey also appeared on the Space Connect Podcast in 2023 in an episode you can listen to below.

The Australian Space Diversity Alliance, meanwhile, launched last year to promote inclusion in the space sector.

It came after a series of reports have shown the sector is lagging behind others in regard to gender disparity and alongside a talent shortage critics say can only be overcome with a more diverse intake.

ASDA was founded by eight industry figures, including the Australian National University’s Dr Cassandra Steer and Raytheon’s Linda Spurr. Space Connect is one of the group’s industry partners, alongside five state governments, the iLAuNCH Trailblazer initiative, and communications agency The Write Space.
