Former Australian ambassador to the United States, Arthur Sinodinos, has been appointed chairman of the board for Australian scramjet-based access-to-space technology company Hypersonix Launch Systems.

Sinodinos will reportedly lead the company’s representation in the United States and strategic engagement across allied defence ecosystems, following the appointment announcement made earlier this year.

During his time in Parliament, Sinodinos has previously served as assistant treasurer, cabinet secretary, and minister for industry, innovation and science.

He is an Officer of the Order of Australia, in recognition of his service to politics through the executive function of government, to the development of economic policy and reform, and to the Greek community.

He has honorary doctorates in letters and business from the universities of Newcastle and Sydney, respectively.

“Arthur brings both private and public sector experience across defence, national security and international policy. As Australia’s ambassador to the United States, he played a central role in advancing Australia’s strategic interests, including negotiations related to AUKUS, the Quad, and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework,” according to a public statement from Hypersonix.

“With strong relationships across the US government, defence and investment communities, Arthur’s appointment will support Hypersonix in building trusted partnerships, navigating complex policy landscapes, and accelerating collaboration as we expand our sovereign hypersonic capabilities into allied markets.

“His notable public service career spans senior positions at the highest levels of the Australian government, serving as senator for New South Wales and spending nine years as chief of staff to Prime Minister John Howard.
