Representatives from both countries reportedly met at the 2nd UK–Australia Strategic Innovation Dialogue in Canberra from 15–16 September this year.
The dialogue falls under the Innovation Chapter of the Australia–UK Free Trade Agreement and focuses on innovation co-operation, commercialisation, industry growth, and market access.
“The United Kingdom and Australia enjoy a longstanding innovation relationship in areas that shape the future. Strong ties between researchers, institutions and governments reflect the two nations’ strong history of innovative collaboration,” a public statement from the Australian Department of Industry, Science, and Resources said.
“Discussions focused on three themes (including) renewable energy (such as) offshore wind, grid digitalisation, and power system data and modelling.
“(The discussions include) life sciences (such as) genomics, including practical support for bilateral collaboration (as well as) research and innovation: Horizon Europe, research infrastructure synergies, and position, navigation and timing, Earth observation and space.
“Following the dialogue, the UK and Australia will develop and release a communiqué and a joint statement on life sciences… the next dialogue will take place in the United Kingdom.”
Australia and the UK are building stronger partnerships in research, innovation, and trade to drive economic growth, resilience, and prosperity.
