Amentum secures US$4bn Space Force range support contract

Reporter

Amentum, through its wholly owned subsidiary Jacobs Technology Inc, has been awarded a United States Space Force contract worth up to US$4 billion (AU$6.22 billion) to provide support for launch range operations and modernisation.

The Space Force range contract (SFRC), managed by Space Systems Command, will see Amentum deliver engineering and technical solutions aimed at improving the efficiency and resilience of America’s military spaceports while supporting national security missions.

The 10-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity agreement begins on 1 June 2025 and covers work at both the eastern and western ranges, including Patrick Space Force Base, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Vandenberg Space Force Base, and associated facilities.

Under the arrangement, Amentum will provide systems engineering, cyber security, logistics, sustainment, integration, operations and program management support. The work is designed to help the United States Space Force meet its “Assured Access to Space” objectives and modernise the Launch and Test Range System (LTRS), enabling higher launch cadence across a multi-user spaceport model.

Mark Walter, president of Amentum’s engineering and technology group, said the company would draw on its experience to ensure mission assurance for the Space Force.

“Amentum will execute this contract to ensure the Space Force maintains assured access to space in support of national security, exploration and commercial missions,” Walter said. “Our team has the unmatched experience and expertise to enable the Space Force to meet its mission demands today and transform for the space launches of tomorrow.”

As part of the SFRC, Amentum will also implement a consolidated LTRS strategy, advance spaceport concepts of operations, bolster range resilience, and drive digital transformation and modernisation initiatives. Recruitment of highly specialised technical staff, including machinists, radar specialists, data scientists and engineers, is also a key component of the program.

Steve Arnette, Amentum’s chief operating officer, said the award built on decades of support for US space launch infrastructure.

“We’re leveraging that deep institutional knowledge, combined with our modern capabilities, to help the Space Force drive mission assurance, accelerate launch readiness and realise the full potential of a multi-user spaceport future,” Arnette said.

Transition work is expected to commence immediately to ensure continuity of operations as launch demand grows.
