The award, made under the NGA’s Luno B indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract framework, marks a significant expansion of Planet’s role in supporting global maritime domain awareness and security operations.
The initial award, known as Advanced Analytics for Maritime Operations and Reconnaissance (AAMOR), will see Planet provide advanced vessel detection and monitoring capabilities to help track illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, ship-to-ship transfers and vessel spoofing.
Planet secured the deal alongside partner SynMax, integrating Planet’s daily, high-resolution PlanetScope satellite imagery with SynMax’s Theia analytics platform. Together, the systems will use artificial intelligence to identify and analyse maritime events in near real time, providing critical insights for both strategic and tactical decision making.

The Luno B program was created to give the US national security community access to commercial geospatial intelligence services that offer new perspectives on global economic, environmental and geopolitical activity.
The framework allows the NGA to expand or extend contracts as operational requirements evolve.
Planet’s US subsidiary, Planet Labs Federal, will deliver the contract, continuing the company’s support for US federal civilian agencies, the Department of Defense, and the intelligence community.
Founded in 2010 by three former NASA scientists, Planet operates the world’s largest fleet of Earth-imaging satellites. The company’s mission is to image the entire planet every day, making global change visible, accessible and actionable for governments, industry and researchers alike.
