Under the new agreement, the UK Space Agency will gain access to Raytheon UK’s NORSSTrack software, a system designed to enhance orbital analysis and operational decision making.
The platform enables real-time mapping and tracking of satellites, monitoring of potential collisions and space debris, assessment of re-entries, and provision of critical data to improve responsiveness in orbit.
A team of Raytheon orbital analysts will be based at the National Space Operations Centre (NSpOC), located at Royal Air Force High Wycombe, where they will provide continuous analysis and operational support to strengthen the UK’s space operations capability.
“Our orbital analysts are among the most capable in the industry,” said James Gray, chief executive and managing director of Raytheon UK. “We’ve invested heavily in developing this expertise, particularly in the north-east, as part of our ongoing commitment to advancing the UK’s space domain awareness.”
Space domain awareness is considered a critical national capability, ensuring that the UK can operate safely, securely and confidently in an increasingly contested orbital environment.
As highlighted in the UK’s Strategic Defence Review, it underpins efforts to protect essential space assets and build resilience across government, defence and industry sectors.
“Our continuing partnership with Raytheon enables us to deliver key elements of the National Space Operations Centre’s operations, analysis and response functions,” said Angus Stewart, head of the NSpOC. “This demonstrates our clear commitment to protecting UK and allied interests in an increasingly complex and congested space environment.”
Raytheon UK’s collaboration with the UK Space Agency, coupled with its sustained investment in this strategically vital sector, is expected to reinforce Britain’s position as a global leader in space operations, security and innovation.
