Anduril moves to boost space surveillance with acquisition of ExoAnalytic Solutions

Stephen Kuper

US defence technology firm Anduril Industries has announced plans to acquire ExoAnalytic Solutions in a move aimed at dramatically strengthening space surveillance and missile defence capabilities for the United States and its allies.

The deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions, is designed to accelerate efforts to monitor and protect the increasingly contested space domain, an environment now seen as critical to modern military operations.

Satellites underpin everything, from communications and navigation to intelligence gathering and missile warning. But as more nations deploy satellites and counter-space capabilities, the orbital environment has become more crowded and competitive, raising the stakes for maintaining reliable awareness of what is happening in space.

Anduril said the acquisition will significantly expand its ability to track objects in orbit, detect potential threats, and support missile defence systems.

For nearly two decades, ExoAnalytic Solutions has been a key player in US national security space programs. The company specialises in modelling and simulation for highly classified missions and provides critical software used in missile warning and missile defence systems.

One of its most significant assets is the world’s largest commercial telescope network dedicated to space surveillance. The network consists of more than 400 telescopes deployed globally, providing persistent, high-fidelity monitoring of objects ranging from satellites in low-Earth orbit to spacecraft operating in deep space.

By integrating this network with its own advanced defence technologies, Anduril Industries aims to rapidly expand its space domain awareness capabilities.

The company has already been working on a range of systems designed to monitor and operate in space, including resilient communications networks that support the United States Space Surveillance Network, the global system used to track objects in orbit.

Bringing ExoAnalytic into the fold will allow Anduril to combine the telescope network’s vast sensor coverage and proven tracking algorithms with its own expertise in autonomous systems, battle management software and command-and-control technologies.

According to the company, the result will be a more powerful suite of tools capable of sensing, tracking and responding to threats across the space domain.

Defence analysts said the move reflects the growing importance of space as a warfighting domain, where maintaining situational awareness is essential for protecting satellites, detecting missile launches and ensuring military forces can continue to communicate and operate effectively.

With the acquisition, Anduril hopes to provide military customers with a clearer, real-time picture of activity in orbit, helping ensure the United States and its allies maintain freedom of action in space as the strategic competition beyond Earth continues to intensify.
