Airbus turns geospatial imagery into economic insights with OneAtlas Platform

Airbus Defence and Space has released a brand new version of The OneAtlas Platform, supporting industries, including Australia’s agricultural sector, with its unique collaborative environment to easily access premium imagery, perform large-scale image processing and extract industry-specific insights.

The OneAtlas Platform provides access to data within the Living Library as well as value-added layers, Basemap and WorldDEM. The Living Library contains multi-resolution and premium optical satellite data, updated on a daily basis and immediately available via streaming, download and API. Basemap is a curated global imagery layer, updated annually and created from 1.5m and 0.5m resolution imagery. WorldDEM dataset, for 3D analytics and rendering, is available in streaming format.

Francois Lombard, head of intelligence business at Airbus Defence and Space said, “The OneAtlas Platform is the cornerstone of disseminating our imagery and services. It provides immediate access to data and analytics and gets it into the hands of many more users and partners to create new business opportunities. The OneAtlas Platform is a cutting-edge tool for the geospatial community.”

The OneAtlas Platform also combines premium imagery and industry-leading expertise to deliver Thematic Services. First one being new change detection capabilities, which allow monitoring and analysis using machine learning to automatically detect and identify infrastructure changes.

Second is Ocean Finder, for maritime-focused applications, which allows users to directly order satellite-based maritime detection and identification reports. Additional Thematic Services include those to help serve environmental needs: Starling, which supports companies to monitor their forest impact with unprecedented accuracy, and Verde, a brand new API service that delivers detailed crop analytics with easy-to-use vegetation maps.

This announcement comes following Airbus’ recent announcement that OneAtlas component Verde had been adopted by DataFarming, an Australian agriculture-technology company based in the regional city of Toowoomba, Queensland, which delivers agriculture solutions for farmers and agronomists around the world.

Tim Neale, managing director of DataFarming said of the OneAtlas and Verde platform, “We are looking at expanding our product offering to our 7,500 farm user base who want more detail about the crop, beyond just NDVI. Having higher resolution on some of the data is also a key value proposition. This is where VERDE fits quite nicely. We have already processed 4,000,000 hectares of NDVI to date and want to leverage our user base to offer this value-added service. Crops such as cotton, rice and sugarcane will certainly benefit."

Lombard expanded on the power of both the OneAtlas and Verde platforms, saying, “With Verde, we underline our ambition to become the reference layer for precision agriculture portals. Both leveraging our wide imagery harvesting and our unrivalled crop analysis capacities, we are offering a totally different way to derive agronomic information from satellite imagery.”
